Desertgrinder (Michael Selcouth) is a photograher, self-taught underground artist and musician who works and lives in Switzerland.
In his photographs, Selcouth shows places that seem forgotten or that escape attention - wich are also the most inspiring ones. Instants of apparent motionlessness are immortalised, as are inconspicuous objects and occurrences that elude everyday perception. The artist appears to play with the viewer's perception, yet it is only a matter of seemingly leading the viewer behind the light. In fact, the beauty of objects and places is revealed in the detail. This revelation demands concentration from the viewer and a willingness to engage fully with the work. It is his years of experience as a visual artist, professional studio photographer, and musician, mostly self-taught, that has sharpened Selcouth's view of the world. The underground artist lives and works in Switzerland.
Mediums for the fine arts are acrylic paint, watercolor, spray paint, oil, markers, ball pen, pencils on canvas, wood and paper. A lot of times quite a few of the media is mixed.
Selcouth is in love with dark and intense colours, strong contours, things out of the ordinary, ponderousness music and stormy weather.
All works are available directly here on this site, by contact Selcouth personally. Commissions can be done as well. In the case of a commission work, a third of the fee has to be payed upfront.
Philosophy:
Dogmatic pigeonholing is the worst enemy of an artist and unnecessarily impede the building of much-needed bridges to achieve great things.
